Found just outside Lyon, this vintage French compotier is a footed glass dish with a wide scalloped bowl, a fluted stem, and a ribbed foot that catches the light. The glass has a real weight to it, substantial in the hand despite the delicate shape. A compotier like this held fruit or sweets on a French dining table, raised up on its pedestal so it could be reached from any seat. Sylvie keeps hers out on display, piled with whatever fruit is in season.
