19th. c French Wedding Chest
France, 19th Century
$1,995
Run, don’t walk - this is the trunk of all trunks. Hand-carved from solid oak in 19th-century France, this wedding chest was likely commissioned to store a bride’s linens and dowry gifts, each panel adorned with floral motifs symbolizing prosperity and fidelity. The craftsmanship is meticulous: diamond-shaped carvings framed by scrolling vines. Sylvie loves it as a console beneath a painting or at the foot of a bed, where its centuries-old romance can keep watch over the present day.
