Proof that even butter deserves a proper landing place. This blue and white French butter dish, with its softly scalloped rim and delicate scrolling floral motif, was made for the daily ritual of bread, butter, and a good knife. Likely mid twentieth century, it would have sat on a kitchen table or sideboard, holding a small mound of salted butter ready for morning tartines or an afternoon slice of baguette. The shallow well and gently upturned edges keep things contained without ever feeling fussy. Sylvie loves it set out at breakfast with a crock of jam and a loaf of still warm bread, doing exactly what it was made to do.
