Ooh la la! This French Louis XVI style commode was found in Montpellier and reflects the restrained neoclassical style common in the south of France at the time. The form is orderly and balanced, with fluted corner posts, three wide drawers, and small upper drawers fitted with round brass pulls. Furniture like this belonged in the main bedroom, where linens, shirts, and household papers were folded away each evening and taken out again the next morning. Sylvie places it in a bedroom or entry, where it quietly organizes the room and makes it feel elevated from the moment you walk in.
