Peaches piled high and grapes slipping over the edge of the table, exactly as they should be. This circa 1900 still life, found in Provence, captures a woven basket brimming with ripe stone fruit and pale clusters of grapes, painted in warm, saturated tones against a dark, softly blended background that gives the composition depth and glow. Originally created as a study in abundance and domestic pleasure at the turn of the century, it carries that classic Provençal kitchen sensibility, and today Sylvie loves it hung above a farmhouse table where the colors echo a bowl of fresh fruit and make the whole room feel generously set.
