This mid-19th century console comes from the Basque Country, where furniture was built for stone farmhouses and hard daily use. It’s made from thick planks with sturdy square legs and a full lower shelf, simple in construction but generous in scale. Pieces like this lived in the kitchen or just inside the entry, holding baskets, tools, and whatever came in from the fields that day. Sylvie uses it as a hallway or living room console, where the wide top and open shelf give real space for books, ceramics, and the things that actually get used.
