Found in Avignon but originally from central France, this 19th century monastery chair would have been used in monastic living quarters or refectories where furniture was built to be sturdy, simple, and made to last for generations. Monastery furnishings were typically handcrafted from oak or other local woods and designed with strong stretchers and solid seats to withstand constant daily use by the community. Sylvie loves it pulled up beside a writing desk or placed at the end of a hallway table.
Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
Notes from Sylvie:
The spot you see on the back of the chair, was just damp from cleaning, it is the same grey color now as the rest of the chair. As with many antiques, this piece may show gentle repairs, cracks, wiggle, scratches, holes, years worth of patina, and stains - just the way we like it.
All items are final sale.
