This one came out of a small Alpine church, where everything was built by hand and meant to last. Found in Avignon and dating to the 19th century, it would have sat along the nave, holding the same families week after week. The form is simple but not plain - the scalloped back, the cut-out sides, small details that soften what is otherwise a very grounded piece. Built from solid wood and used constantly, the wear sits exactly where it should. Sylvie places it along a wall or at the foot of a bed, where it still feels quietly anchored.
