The carvings on this piece are what stop you in your tracks. This 19th century oak trunk from the Bordeaux region was originally built to store household linens, clothing, and valuables in an era before closets were common, when large carved chests were essential furnishings in French homes. Over time many were adapted into sideboards thanks to their sturdy construction and generous interiors. This example features deeply carved paneled doors, original metal hinges. It has been sanded down to raw oak which highlights the depth of the wood grain. Sylvie loves it as a sideboard where the sculptural carvings and solid presence bring instant character to a room.
