The Forest Tapestry

France, 19th Century

This richly woven tapestry depicts a lively forest scene filled with riders, hunters, and noble figures moving through a lush landscape, echoing the grand narrative tapestries that decorated European homes and châteaux from the late medieval through the 18th century. Historically, tapestries served both decorative and practical roles, insulating stone walls while displaying scenes of courtly life and hunting. This example is thickly woven with deep greens, soft blues, and warm earth tones, framed by a dense floral border, and remains in very good condition with strong color and a substantial weave. Sylvie loves it as a dramatic focal point in a living room, dining room, or hallway.
