From Montpellier and dating to the 19th century, this gilt mirror was finished using traditional water gilding - gold leaf laid over a base of red bole clay, which gives the surface its warmth and depth. Where the gold has thinned over time, that red begins to show through, a detail tied directly to the original process. The frame is built with a tight band of rosettes and fine beading along the inner edge, set within a broader outer moulding that keeps the proportions clean and structured. Sylvie leans it on a mantel or sets it just above a console, where the gold catches light and shifts throughout the day.
