Found in Avignon and dating to the early 20th century, this French desk would have been used for everyday writing - letters, accounts, whatever needed to be put down at the end of the day. The frame is simple and narrow, with a single drawer and a scalloped apron running along the front. The paint has worn back heavily, leaving that soft, crackled surface across the legs and apron, while the top shows the marks of constant use. Sylvie loves it used as it was meant to be - papers spread out, a stack of books off to one side, something half written and left there until you come back to it.
