Found in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, originally from a silk factory in Lyon, this 19th century tiered worktable would have sat inside the ateliers where silk was sorted, folded, and prepared before finishing. Lyon was the heart of France’s silk trade at the time - entire rooms dedicated to the handling of delicate textiles and pieces like this were built to hold volume without damaging the material, keeping fabrics lifted, aired, and within reach. Sylvie loves it set along a wall in a living room or kitchen, stacked with books, ceramics, and objects that deserve to be seen, the way it once held lengths of silk.
