Found in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, this vintage stool was hand-turned in mid-20th-century France for a country kitchen where it moved from task to task throughout the day. A stool like this was carried out to the cowshed at dawn for milking, drawn close to the kitchen table at noon, and set next to the hearth at night for the long hours after dinner. Sylvie places it next to a bed where it holds a glass of water, a candle, and the book someone is halfway through.
