In a Dutch cellar, a table like this held the glasses and bottles while the wine was tasted. It dates to the 19th century, a Dutch piece that turned up in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, a round plank top that lifts clean off a trestle base and locks back on with a metal latch. It was made to come apart, the top lifting free of the base so the whole thing could be carried in two pieces and set up again wherever the next barrel was waiting. Sylvie sets it up as a small round side table, and lifts the top off the base whenever the room needs the space back.
