Spanish Pyrenees Kitchen Cupboard

Spain, 19th Century

$2,895

Antique

One-Of-A-Kind

Wood

In a Pyrenees kitchen this cupboard did the work of a whole pantry, the plates and bowls out on the open shelves and the food kept behind the doors below. It dates to the 19th century and came out of the Spanish Pyrenees, featuring open shelves above a two-door base, each edge finished with a wavy scalloped cut. The split was practical, the everyday dishes kept on show and within reach up top and the food shut away below, with the scalloped edges standing in as the one bit of decoration on an otherwise plain kitchen piece. Sylvie stands it in a kitchen with plates lined along the shelves and the cupboard below kept for what should stay out of sight.
