Vintage Glass Pedestal Dish - II

Found outside Lyon, this footed glass stand came from a dealer we have known for years, out of a collection his father spent decades building. It is pressed clear glass, a wide flat plate edged with a beaded rim, raised on a fluted, spreading foot. A stand like this is a cake stand, the piece that once carried the cake to the table and made an occasion of it. Sylvie piles it just as happily with artichokes or fruit, anything worth lifting into view.
