Found outside Lyon from a dealer we've worked with for years, this vintage French glass cake stand and cloche came from his father's collection, built up over decades of looking. The pedestal is a small bowl on a turned glass stem and footed base, the cloche above hand-blown into a soft ribbed dome with a round finial at the top. Cake stands like this lived on a French sideboard with whatever sweet thing was being saved for after dinner, the dome keeping the dust off the brioche or the half-eaten tart from the afternoon. Sylvie sets it out with a small cake, the cloche lifted for whoever helps themselves first.
