One-Of-A-Kind

From Besalú, a medieval stone town in Catalonia, this 19th-century cupboard carries the dark, hand-built character of the region's country furniture. The whole piece is painted a worn black, a small two-door cabinet up top beneath a carved, scalloped crest, with four open shelves below. The form is a Catalan one, a closed cabinet set over open shelves, so a household could keep what mattered behind doors and everything else within reach below. Sylvie stands it in a bedroom with books along the open shelves and the cabinet above kept for the things she would rather not leave out.

Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
