Vintage One-Of-A-Kind Exactly As Pictured

After the war, French furniture took a turn for the honest, the heavy, the made-to-last, and brutalist pieces like this one came out of small workshops across France through the 1950s. Found in Avignon, this French brutalist pine dining table has a thick plank top set on four chunky round legs joined low by a stretcher. The brutalist movement in France was a reaction against the ornament of the century before; furniture stopped pretending and just showed how it was made, and a generation of designers fell hard for the result. Sylvie sets it in a kitchen with a bench down one side and chairs along the other, laid for a long lunch on a Sunday.
