Vintage One-Of-A-Kind Styling Essential

Found in Avignon, this 1940s French gilt mirror was carved in the Louis XV taste, with a softly curving cartouche shape, a scalloped shell crowning the top, and small scrolling rocailles set at every corner. The Louis XV style never really left France; long after the 18th-century king was gone, the gilt mirrors he loved kept being made in his manner, generation after generation, the way a country keeps a song in its head. Sylvie hangs it above a small console with a single tapered candle and a bowl for keys, the kind of mirror you catch yourself in on the way out the door.
