Rare French Rush Stool

France, 20th Century

$295

Vintage One-Of-A-Kind Oh So French!

Found in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, this early 20th-century French stool has a round rush seat woven in a four-part star, raised on four turned legs. Rush seats like this were the work of the village rempailleur, who came through to reweave them by hand when they wore thin, so the straw was renewed again and again while the frame stayed put for generations. Sylvie tucks it into a corner of the bathroom with a stack of towels on top.
