Sourced from central France, this pair of 19th-century cast iron dukes was never meant to be bookends until Sylvie decided they were. Originally a set of chenets, the iron firedogs that held the logs in the hearths of grand French homes, they take the form of two bearded men in pointed helmets, the rust gone deep into the cast and softened by a century of fire. Sylvie sets them on a shelf with a stack of old French books between them, the kind with soft cloth spines and titles in French.
