Tripod Pedestal Table

France, 19th Century

$895

Antique One-Of-A-Kind Wood

Found in Avignon, this 19th century side table is a small round-topped piece on three legs turned in a row of little spools, the wood a deep walnut brown. Tables like this were the moveable extra surface of a 19th century room, carried over to a chair or a fireside for a cup or a candle and set down wherever it was wanted. It stands on three legs for good reason, three feet always sit flat while four can rock, so a little table like this never wobbled however uneven the old floors were. Sylvie uses it beside a chair with a vase of whatever's in season.
