Rare English Plate

Found in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, this English armorial plate is Wedgwood, the "Grass Edge" Etruria pattern, printed in dark blue on cream earthenware. The center carries a small coat of arms with three vertical figures and a ribbon beneath reading BIS DUO, Latin for "twice two." The mark on the underside reads only England without Made in, which dates the plate to before 1921 - that's when American import law forced every English potter to add the longer phrasing. Sylvie hangs it on a wall in the kitchen, the crest facing the room, the kind of plate that earns its hook without ever needing to come down for dinner.
