Antique One-Of-A-Kind Rare

In the farmhouses of Catalonia, the kitchen buffet was the workhorse of the house, the one cabinet that held the plates, the bread, and the wine and earned its keep every day. Found in Béziers, this 19th-century Catalan console has a thick plank top over two wide doors, hung on long iron straps and opened by a simple ring pull. Hardware like that used to live on the outside of a door, forged by the village blacksmith and fixed right across the front, back before hinges learned to tuck themselves out of sight. Sylvie sets it along a dining room wall, plates and linens behind the doors, a jug of white anemones and a couple of books on top.
