Found in Montpellier, this late-19th-century French screen was made to divide a room without closing it off. Folding screens like this stood across a corner to make a private spot to dress or bathe, or simply to break up a large room, the open ironwork letting light and air pass straight through so it never felt like a wall. Every scroll was bent by hand and the panels filled with iron flowers, turning a plain divider into something worth looking at from both sides. Sylvie sets it beside a bath or across a bedroom corner, as much for the shadows it throws as for the screening.
