Spain gave the still life its own name, the bodegón, and its own subject, the food of an ordinary table. Found in Béziers, this 19th-century Spanish painting lays out exactly that, a loaf of bread, a dish of olives, a few slices of Iberian ham, and a ceramic jug, set down in a dark and moody light. The bodegón took the plainest food a kitchen had and painted it with the seriousness usually saved for portraits, turning a meal into something worth looking at long after it was eaten. Sylvie hangs it in a kitchen or dining room, where it sits close to the real thing.

Notes from Sylvie:

Dear collector, these pieces have been used for many years and may show light wear consistent with their age. The frame has some minor chips showing the white plaster beneath. There was a carved motif at the top of the frame that must have broken off in a past life. There are some minor chips and cracks in the canvas.
