Found in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, this mid-century French espresso milk jug is glazed a soft apple green with a deep brown handle, the colours of a Provençal kitchen in the 1950s. Small jugs like this came out alongside the morning coffee, just big enough for the splash of warm milk that turns a black espresso into a café crème. The green has worn through to the clay in spots where decades of fingers found the same place to hold it. Sylvie keeps it next to the stovetop espresso pot, ready for the first coffee of the day.
