Rare 19th c. Kitchen Table

Found in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, this small side table has a single deep drawer, its front engraved with fine hand-drawn scrolls around a keyhole, the whole raised on slender tapered legs and worn to a warm honey brown. Its maker took the trouble to make an everyday table a little lovely, the kind of small table that sat by a bed or a chair and kept a person’s letters, keepsakes, and small private things close. Sylvie would set it beside a chair or a bed, a lamp and a few books on top and the drawer for the small things of a day.
Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.
Notes from Sylvie:
Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The wood has a dark brown patina with some discoloration, while the back is raw, unfinished wood. The lock mechanism shows some rust patina and is decorative. The drawer has a small interior split, and the piece has a slight wobble.
All items are final sale.
