This solid 19th-century French wooden cutting board from Villeneuve-lès-Avignon would have lived right on the kitchen worktable, used daily for slicing loaves, trimming vegetables from the garden, and preparing cured meats. Boards like this were made thick and sturdy so they could handle constant knife work and be scrubbed clean at the basin again and again. Its worn, marked surface comes from decades of real kitchen use rather than decoration. Today, it rests easily against a backsplash or works beautifully as a serving board for charcuterie.
