  • Notes from Sylvie:

This piece is such a lovely french tian, but it does have some glaze chips on the inside of the tian.

This Antique French Terracotta Tian was once a staple in French kitchens, used for baking and serving hearty dishes. Found with a few interior glaze chips, it shows the marks of its past life, where it likely cradled simmering stews or fresh bread straight from the oven. Its beautiful contrast between the glazed interior and rough exterior speaks to the practical yet elegant designs of rural French homes. Whether you use it for serving, display, or simply as a decorative piece, this tian carries with it the warmth and history of Provence.

Marseille, the vibrant port city of the Mediterranean, is a place where history, culture, and tradition collide. Founded over 2,600 years ago, Marseille is one of France’s oldest cities, with a rich tapestry woven from its diverse influences—Greek, Roman, and beyond. The city’s bustling markets, colorful neighborhoods, and sun-soaked coastline have long been a melting pot of ideas, artistry, and craftsmanship.

The surrounding Provençal landscapes, with their olive groves, terracotta rooftops, and rugged coastline, offer a glimpse into the soul of Southern France. It’s here, in and around Marseille, that we uncovered our latest collection of antiques—pieces that speak to the city’s maritime spirit and eclectic soul.

Sylvie rummaged through dusty, forgotten warehouses, met with third generation antique dealers and found herself wandering through vibrant seaside markets to curate this collection.
