We stumbled upon this unique little bench in a tucked-away antique shop, hidden amongst the bustling streets of Marseille, but its origins trace back to the homes of the Cévennes. Picture it sitting beside a large stone fireplace, where it likely offered a sturdy seat to someone warming themselves after a long day working in the fields or hiking through the mountains. The handwoven rush seat still holds the memory of those quiet fireside moments, while the curved wood backrest, naturally shaped, would have cradled the backs of generations, watching flames flicker and fade as the evening wore on.

Marseille, the vibrant port city of the Mediterranean, is a place where history, culture, and tradition collide. Founded over 2,600 years ago, Marseille is one of France’s oldest cities, with a rich tapestry woven from its diverse influences—Greek, Roman, and beyond. The city’s bustling markets, colorful neighborhoods, and sun-soaked coastline have long been a melting pot of ideas, artistry, and craftsmanship.

The surrounding Provençal landscapes, with their olive groves, terracotta rooftops, and rugged coastline, offer a glimpse into the soul of Southern France. It’s here, in and around Marseille, that we uncovered our latest collection of antiques—pieces that speak to the city’s maritime spirit and eclectic soul.

Sylvie rummaged through dusty, forgotten warehouses, met with third generation antique dealers and found herself wandering through vibrant seaside markets to curate this collection.
