To own this riser, is to own a fragment of a chateau. What a wonderful thought to have every time you light your favorite candle. This Terracotta Chateau Tile Riser showcases an aged surface with traces of whitewash, small chips, and a naturally uneven texture that hints at its storied past. Perfect as a spoon rest in your kitchen or a candle riser on your coffee table.

  • Notes from Sylvie:

My dear, please note that each tile riser is unique, some have white wash on them, others are a deep terracotta red, they all have smooth and rough surfaces and some have minor chips.

Originally part of the flooring in a grand French chateau, this terracotta tile once lay beneath the feet of nobility, echoing with the sound of footsteps as guests moved through lavish halls. Its surface, brushed with a soft layer of whitewash over time, absorbed the light from tall windows and the warmth of crackling fireplaces. When the chateau’s floor was restored, some tiles were removed, their edges worn and surfaces chipped from years of lively gatherings, dancing, and the passing of centuries. Rescued from a pile of forgotten remnants, Sylvie thought to herself, these would make a beautiful riser for all my favorite things.

A tale so magical, we barely believe it. The story of this collection begins in the heart of Aix-en-Provence, where whispers led us to an extraordinary discovery—a resting place for the remnants of chateaus long forgotten. This ‘graveyard’ was unlike anything Sylvie had ever encountered.

Amidst the ruins, each piece seemed to carry the echoes of noble homes, some felled by earthquakes, others abandoned and left to time. It was a place of lost grandeur, where fragments of history lay waiting. Sylvie handpicked her favorites from these forgotten treasures, breathing new life into each one, and sometimes, a new purpose. This collection is a revival of French history, offering pieces once thought lost to time.
