Pine Buffett

France, 20th Century

$1,595

Vintage One-Of-A-Kind Wood

Stripped back to raw pine, it has nothing to hide. Found in Pézenas and made in the 20th century, this pine buffet has two paneled doors below a pair of small drawers, hung on iron hinges and stripped to a pale, honeyed wood, with shelves inside for whatever a kitchen needs to keep. The buffet was the backbone of the French kitchen, one honest cupboard that held the plates, the linens, and the day’s provisions behind its doors. Sylvie would stand it in a kitchen or dining room for dishes and linens, or in an entry to swallow all the things that pile up by a door.

Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.

Notes from Sylvie:

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. The buffet has been sanded back to raw wood with some staining and rust patina on the hardware. The doors have a wooden latch, and only the top left drawer is functional. The unfinished interior and back show some staining and wear.
