They didn’t have fridges in 1850s France. They had this. Found in Lyon and made of solid oak, this early icebox hails from the Bourgogne region and dates to around 1850, back when blocks of ice were delivered to the door and tucked into insulated compartments like this to keep food cold. You can still see the ventilation lines and panelwork that hint at its clever original purpose. It’s rare to find one this intact. Sylvie loves it as a statement piece in a dining room or hallway, now storing all your favorite treasures.
