Pine Folding Table

France, 19th Century

$1,355

A chameleon of a table, this late 19th-century pine table top pivots on the legs, then folds open to reveal a larger table top with metal hinges. Originally from a farmhouse near Avignon, this unique design allows it to expand into a larger surface for family meals or fold down when you want something more compact. Its turned legs still carry their original patina, contrasting beautifully with the lighter raw pine surface above. Sylvie imagines it in a dining nook, switching effortlessly between breakfast for two and a full spread of Sunday provisions.

  • Notes from Sylvie:

This antique piece wears its history beautifully. It has slight rust patina on the fully functioning mechanisms and a raw pine table top surface. There is evidence of past finish on the legs. Past woodworm holes, repairs, cracks, patina, and stains all add to its character.
