Long French Farm Bench

Kitchen Must Have

Found in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon and originally from a farm near Maussane-les-Alpilles, this 19th-century French bench is a long primitive piece built for a Provençal farmhouse. A bench like this lived in the kitchen pulled up to the long farm table, then moved outside in summer to the table set under the olive trees for the midday meal. The wood has weathered from a hundred years of use and the slow heat of Provençal summers. Sylvie places it against a wall in a long dining room, ready to slide out for the dinner that turns into eight people instead of four.

Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.

Dear collector, as with many antiques, this piece may show signs of its age, including subtle repairs, a bit of movement, cracks, scratches, small holes, and surface variation from years of use. This one stands on three feet and wobbles without weight on it. There is split in one leg, which doesn't affect it's functionality. There are really beautiful square tenons through the seat with diagonal wedges.
