Found in Avignon, this vintage French garden set is the kind you see in a Parisian park or a village square in Provence, gathered for the long afternoon. The set is hand-bent wrought iron painted in soft cream: one round table with a pierced top and four heart-backed lovers chairs. Wrought iron garden furniture like this first appeared on the terraces of Parisian cafés in the 19th century, and the form has barely changed since. The cream paint has chipped softly at the edges, the way good outdoor furniture does after a few decades of summer rain and winter sun. Sylvie places the table in a courtyard with the four chairs pulled in, a pitcher of rosé in the middle, and the afternoon stretching out.
