Found in Montpellier, this 20th-century French coffee table is a converted table de vendange, the round folding table that French winemakers carried out into the vineyard at harvest time and set up under a tree to feed the pickers their lunch. The legs and the round top come apart from each other, which is how a single table could travel from the barn to the field and back again every September. The top was cut down at some point in the 20th century to coffee table height, a conversion that's become quietly common as these tables move from working life into living rooms. Sylvie places it in the center of a room with a single tall vase of whatever's blooming, and lets the table do the rest.
