The Patternmaker Farm Table

France, 19th Century

$2,350

There is something very special about this table. Originally a French pattern-maker's table, with two functional drawers, it still has threads of evidence of the once fabric covered surface. This is a true one of a kind, hard to find and shows proof of its original use. Sylvie loves using it as a unique dining table paired with rush chairs.

  • Dimensions:

    30" H x 83" W x 33" D

  • Materials:

    Wood

  • Weight Range:

    70 lbs

  • Notes from Sylvie:

Dear collector, you can see where the fabric was cut from the top of this table, as there are still threads visible on all the tabletop edges. It has a bit of a wobble side to side and some significant cracks and gaps on the table surface. The drawers are missing drawer pulls, but you can still pull them out with a little effort. The drawers themselves have some significant holes, some have been repaired. There is evidence of past worm holes in the wood. Despite its years of use this is a fully functional table.

  • Collector's Notice:

As antique and vintage pieces, items may show signs of age and wear. Minor variations from the images may occur unless otherwise noted. All sales are final.

Originally used in a French atelier, this pattern-maker’s table was the workspace where artisans crafted garments. The table once had a padded surface covered in muslin to soften the surface and make sewing and pattern drafting easier. The table's drawers were filled with scissors and pattern drafting tools, carefully guarded by generations of skilled craftsmen. The table bears the marks of years of creativity and invention, a silent witness to the art of precision.

Uzès, a hidden gem in the south of France is where this story begins. Situated between Provence and the Languedoc, this medieval town is known for its winding cobblestone streets, grand Renaissance architecture, and the striking Duchy of Uzès. With roots tracing back to Roman times, Uzès has been shaped by diverse cultural influences, from ancient aqueducts to aristocratic estates.

Surrounded by sprawling vineyards, ancient olive groves, and the peaceful countryside of Occitanie, Uzès is just as serene as it sounds. It is here where Sylvie put on her comfortable shoes and got lost wandering these ancient streets and its nearby villages.

Sylvie explored age-worn courtyards, connected with local antique dealers, and sifted through forgotten spaces to curate a selection that brings to life Uzès’ storied past.
