French Landscape Painting

France, 19th Century

This exquisite, unframed artwork captures a serene moment in what appears to be a provincial village in France. The muted, darker tones and bare trees suggest a quiet winter scene. Sylvie discovered this charming piece while strolling the sidewalks of Uzes, just as the wisteria was beginning to bloom. Signed by F. Camepa, this artwork is truly versatile whether you're a minimalist or maximalist.

While rumaging through an old antique store, we stumbled upon this masterpiece. This large village landscape painting, created in the 18th century, depicts the mountain village and idyllic countryside of rural France. We imagine it hanging in a grand salon of a château, where it offered guests a glimpse of the serene beauty of french country living. The painting’s rich terracotta colors and bold brushstrokes would make it anyone's prized possession.

Uzès, a hidden gem in the south of France is where this story begins. Situated between Provence and the Languedoc, this medieval town is known for its winding cobblestone streets, grand Renaissance architecture, and the striking Duchy of Uzès. With roots tracing back to Roman times, Uzès has been shaped by diverse cultural influences, from ancient aqueducts to aristocratic estates.

Surrounded by sprawling vineyards, ancient olive groves, and the peaceful countryside of Occitanie, Uzès is just as serene as it sounds. It is here where Sylvie put on her comfortable shoes and got lost wandering these ancient streets and its nearby villages.

Sylvie explored age-worn courtyards, connected with local antique dealers, and sifted through forgotten spaces to curate a selection that brings to life Uzès’ storied past.
