  • Notes from Sylvie:

Dear collector, this small chest of drawers has minor stains and a small crack on it's top surface. One of the metal pulls is bent down, but this little cabinet is very sturdy and functions beautifully.

This Louis XVI chest of drawers, crafted circa 1800, comes from the historic Château de Saint-Pons in Aix-en-Provence, a property with a remarkable past. Originally part of the grand estate belonging to Melchion de Bourdon, lord of Saint-Pons in 1561, the château saw centuries of political meetings and noble gatherings. In later years, it endured the tumult of World War II, when the German forces occupied it between 1943 and 1944, even constructing an anti-aircraft gun on the roof. Following the war, the château was transformed into a hotel by the Hautot family in 1954, a venture that lasted until the 1990s. This chest, with its rich history and intricate design, carries the echoes of these events, a quiet witness to the château’s layered and storied past.
