This Spanish marble mortar, found in the Catalonian countryside, carries the weight of centuries in its thick carved walls and softly worn surface. Small protruding lugs are shaped for grip, and the basin has been smoothed by years of grinding herbs and spices in rural kitchens long before modern conveniences. Sylvie keeps it out on the table where the marble catches the light and the history speaks for itself.
