This one-of-a-kind 19th-century salt-glazed pot was found in Alsace, crafted from pale grey stoneware and finished with bold, gestural cobalt brushstrokes that curl across its surface like a signature. Unlike more delicate floral motifs, the pattern here is loose and expressive - almost calligraphic - hinting at the hand and rhythm of the potter who painted it. Once used to store pickles or preserves, Sylvie now keeps it by the stove filled with wooden spoons, where its painterly swirls can be admired up close.
