Vintage One-Of-A-Kind Exactly As Pictured

Found in Avignon, this little table stands on three barley-twist legs, each one spiralling up from a ball foot like a length of turned rope. A round top with a molded edge sits above, and down below the legs meet at a small triangular shelf with a disc at its center. Barley twist takes its name from barley sugar, the spun candy of old, and the form goes back to the 1600s, when a turner who could coax a clean spiral from the lathe was showing the very top of his craft. Sylvie stands it beside a chair or at the end of a sofa, small enough to slip in anywhere and worth a second look wherever it lands.
