Framed Tapestry - Brittany
France, 20th Century
$1,095
Pastoral bliss, stitched into fabric. This early 20th-century tapestry from Brittany, found in Béziers, depicts a countryside gathering beneath leafy trees, where elegantly dressed figures lounge and converse against a backdrop of rolling fields and distant architecture. Works like this carried on a tradition that dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries, when Brittany was celebrated for its woven textiles and rural motifs. Tapestries were more than decoration — they kept damp stone walls warmer and served as storytelling devices, often celebrating regional identity and everyday life. Framed in wood and rendered in soft sepia tones, this piece blends art, history, and utility, a rare survivor of a craft that once defined domestic and noble interiors alike.

Notes from Sylvie:
There is a slight twist to the solid oak Frame and the piece hangs from Metal hooks. We think the sun-faded color and a few loose threads only add to its beauty.
