Apothecary Dresser

Wood

Sylvie nearly climbed over a stack of old crates in Avignon to get to this one. It sat behind the counter of a neighborhood apothecary, where its pine top earned that soft, matte finish from decades of weighing herbs, sliding paper sachets across the surface, and thumbing through prescriptions. The solid oak case was the workhorse of the shop - eight deep drawers for bulk botanicals, with two interior dividers still intact from when they held the smallest remedies. The wood shows the kind of honest wear that only comes from real use: smooth pulls, light scuffs, and the warm tone that happens when oak has lived a long, useful life. Sylvie loves it as the anchor of a bedroom or dining room.

There is some previous white finish still visible near the base and on a few of the drawer fronts. Although the top is pine the case and drawers are oak, making this piece sturdy and heavy. There is some minor rust on the drawer pulls. As with many antiques, this piece may show gentle repairs, cracks, scratches, holes, years worth of patina, and stains - just the way we like it.
