Morning light hits the counter and suddenly even the practical things start to shine. This set of three French canisters, found in Carpentras and dating to the 1950s, is made from pressed metal with softly faceted sides that catch and bend the light, each topped with a small geometric knob that feels distinctly midcentury. These would have lined a kitchen shelf holding sugar, coffee, or spices at a time when matching sets brought a sense of order to the everyday, their labeled fronts keeping everything in its place. Sylvie lines them up where they can reflect a bit of movement back into the room, on an open shelf or counter, holding tea bags and coffee.
