This is the sort of wall piece that gives a room its plot. Picked up just outside Lyon and dating to the early 20th century, it draws on an older French woven tradition of hunting and pastoral scenes, with riders, dogs, and figures moving through a wooded landscape toward a château in the distance. Woven in cotton and wool, the composition has real depth to it, with soft blues, olive greens, and warm golds held inside a simple border that keeps the whole scene feeling composed. Sylvie hangs it across a long wall or in an entryway where you can take in the full sweep of it as you move past.
